These DIY raised garden plans have been created through my experience building hundreds of garden beds in homes across New Zealand. Over time, I’ve refined the most usable sizing, techniques, and methods to create a functional and strong raised garden bed.
These plans are designed to build a raised garden measuring 1250mm wide x 2500mm long x 400mm tall. The same method can be applied to shorter, longer, or even taller raised garden beds.
A quick tip: add a layer of cardboard at the bottom of your garden bed, then a solid layer of sticks, twigs, and other organic matter before topping it with compost and soil.

We also build to suit your space, with custom sizes available both larger and smaller than this.
Each garden is constructed using quality materials, with options including redwood, Japanese cedar, or pine, and is securely fastened with 12-gauge bugle batten screws and 100 x 100 mm corner posts for strength and durability.
To set your garden up for success, we lay cardboard at the base to suppress weeds, then fill your bed with your choice of soil. Custom Plans and Installation:
I’ve created a variety of kitset raised timber garden beds, but there is always spaces that need, or want, more than the ‘stock’ options. For these gardens I come and visit to measure up your space and discuss your vision. I then go and design unique plans, get the timber and hardware needed before returning to install and even fill your garden beds with soil all ready for you to begin your ‘grow at home’ journey.
